Siem Reap- Ankor Wat

Yesterday we had a big travel day - the kids were great no problem at all - mostly in good moods even though it was quite hot .
First taxi to the bus station then a 4.5 h bus ride to the border (bus was great air con - reclined seats - and even free water) there we didn't experienced the expected big scam with people waiting and pushing us etc - I think it was because we looked quite determined and we were with kids. So all went smooth - no big deal and we got a taxi from there for the next 150 km for less than expected. At night we already had a great swim at Borann - check the website out http://www.borann.com/
Robin is feeling not so great (stuffed up nose and still coughing) - I think he spent altogether too many hours in the pools - hope this will change. The next days will be filled with Ankor Wat sightseeing for 3 days temples at sunrise (4:45) temples through the day and temples at sunset - with great food and lovely travel companions.

Last night in BKK

We're going to leave early tomollow morning. Today it was checking out bus route and prices, pool and sight seeing (too late for the Kings palace though - instead longboat driving through the klongs with the sight of 2 big warans!) with a lot of bargaining. One tour we negotiated down from 2500 baht to 1000 and it was worth it to go all the five of us. Meanwhile Ingrid and Susi 2 teacher collegues joined us. Relaxed we are playing dice by the pool again with Bacardi Breezers and with our feet massaged for 3 bucks each. Tuk Tuk driving is fun too for 5 bahts anywhere in the city which translates into not even 10 Euro cents. This is great and the drivers enjoy my new hair color -lol. =)

Bangkok-Arrival

yeah we are here - I love it: the smell, the crowd of people and the bustling city.
It was a pretty long trip which had it's surprises. First of all we had a hotel in transit in Amman for about 3.5 hours rest out of the 8 hours layover but better than staying in the transit area on the airport. Hotel and dinner was free. =)
2:10 in the morning we went on and arrived Bangkok on plan - Royal Jordanian is a great Airline with lots of movies and games - time went by quickly. Unfortunately Megan didn't get to see the cockpit - somehow the pilot didn't want to - not even on Megan's birthday.
Only we got asked twice at the Amman airport : Is this a boy or a girl? pointing to Robin before they body searched us ..... he felt quite insulted. =)
We already had fried rice and fried noodles and a shower. Robin's face turned from that looks strange I wanted something else into the biggest smile of the day: both kids wanted more - the taste was just great.
We'll play a few games and then hit beds - over all we are all excited and already enchanted by this different world.

Preparations

Hello everybody,

this is going to be our travel report for our newest adventure:

Thailand-Cambodia-Vietnam

Some FAQs first:
  • Why are we going there? Vietnam was the country Steve wanted us to meet last year - we will take him with us in our hearts.
  • Why do we write a travel report? Well there were lots of :"Oh my god - with the kids?" and "Really all the three of you?" Since we don't exactly know where we will be when and I want to be without my cell and the time of writing postcards is over .... I want to give everybody "concerned" or "interested" the chance to follow our footprints we'll leave in the internet cafes.
  • Why is the report in English? Since we have English speaking family and friends English will be understood by everybody. Robin and Megan will be writing too as well and as best as they can.
  • How will we travel? The plan is that we will take whatever moves: TukTuk, train, bus, boat, taxi, bike, the bamboo train or even an elephant. But who knows what else we will find.
  • What are the travel dates? We'll be leaving on July 8th and will stay till August 16th.
So, by now time is getting tight - we still need to pack. We'll just take as little as possible - packs are heavy and it will be hot - so Megan will carry a day pack, Robin a hiking backpack and I will carry the big one. The medicine bag will be the biggest item and hopefully it will be as full at the end of the trip. ;-)
